New City Building Dedication
Ephraim’s new 18,000 square foot city hall will be dedicated immediately after the Scandinavian parade approximately 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, May 24. “The architect tried to give it something of a Scandinavian look so it fits in with the history of Ephraim,” commented city council member Garth Sorenson. Saturday’s ceremony will include a welcome and remarks by Mayor Casperson, remarks by a special speaker, a ribbon cutting following which the building will be open for viewing by the public for most of the day. Citizens have early awaited the new city building since the groundbreaking ceremony in May of 2002. Several years ago engineers told city officials that the foundation of the old building was crumbling. The offices were crowded, and the cultural hall hadn’t been used for years. Considering the anticipated growth of Ephraim City, the decision was made to go ahead with a new city hall that would meet the city’s and citizen’s needs for years to come. The building was completed in January of this year. Sorenson remarks, “The extra space should meet the needs of the city for decades...it should be a great centerpiece in downtown Ephraim for a great many years.”
