       See & Do
In addition to eating, listening to fine music and visiting the varied booths, there are several other things to take in while at the Scandinavian Heritage Festival.

Parade
One of the Scandinavian Heritage Festival’s highlights is the annual parade, which will take place this year beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The parade route follows Main Street from 300 South to College Avenue (100 North), where it turns east for one block. Families, businesses, organizations or for that matter, anyone, may enter the parade. There is no entry fee. Simply line up on 300 South east of Main Street at 9:30 a.m. Entries must be identified and identification must be visible from both sides of the street. Candy is OK.

Cash prizes will be awarded for best use of theme, best business entry, best family entry and best overall float.
For information, call Heather Harward, (435) 283-4918. MORE INFO

Art Show
The Scandinavian Heritage Festival’s Art Show will be held at the Central Utah Art Center just south of the Ephraim Co-op Buliding at 96 N. Main Street. The art center will be open the Saturday of the festival from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. The exhibit will run until June 25. MORE INFO

Quilt Show
The Scandinavian Heritage Festival’s Quilt Expo will be held upstairs at the Ephraim Co-op Building at 96 N. Main Street on Friday-Saturday, and Monday, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. The expo includes quilts from local artists, particularly quilts that exemplify Ephraim’s Scandinavian or pioneer heritage. For information about entering a quilt, call Marcia Christensen, (435) 283-2212. MORE INFO

Ceramics Workshops
Again this year, the Central Utah Art Center will sponsor pottery-firing workshops and will host a special exhibit as part of the Scandinavian Heritage Festival that will allow participants to take home a truly unique creation. The workshops will feature alternative firing methods for ceramics and will allow participants to take home a unique creation from the festival.

Pioneer House Tour
While the Scandinavian Heritage Festival celebrates the food and traditions of Scandinavia brought to the Sanpete Valley by pioneers, a unique exhibit at Ephraim’s Pioneer Park offers guests a glimpse inside the meager day-to-day lives of those early settlers. On Saturday, May 24, guided tours of Ephraim’s exquisitely restored pioneer homes and cabins will be offered after the parade ends until 4 p.m. On the grounds of the park, at about 75 W. 100 North, stand two log cabins; one of Ephraim’s earliest houses, built in 1889; and a barn. Margaret Riding, who organizes the tours, said the interiors of the structures are fully furnished with period furniture and antiques. “It’s pretty fascinating,” Riding said.

Historic Bus Tour
Since the early 1980s, bus tours have been a part of the Scandinavian Festival, putting festival attendees as close to the magnificent history of the Sanpete Valley as can be without a time machine. Martha Olsen, a teacher at Ephraim Middle School worked with Virginia Nielsen, 2004's grand marshal, to create the itinerary and write the script for the tour. This year, Roger Bakerwill be guiding the tours, which will run hourly from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, May 24. Busses leave from the the northeast corner of College Avenue and 100 East. The cost for the tour, which covers approximately 25 sites, is $1 per person.
